REBEL RODDER (RR) ROAD DISPATCH #2: “From The Path Paved Forward… To The Road Not Taken”

DAY TWO: Thursday, September 24, 2026 / Departure Time—10:50 am

SIX STATES: 2) Vermont, 3) New Hampshire, 4) Maine, 5) Massachusetts, 6) Rhode Island, 7) Connecticut

STATE #2: Bennington, VT / Robert Frost Gravesite & Giant Obelisk Monument / 11: 00 am / (1/2)

While having a hot complimentary breakfast at the hotel, we overheard an elderly couple who were “off-season travelers” that aspired to someday travel to all 48 contiguous states. This immediately perked our ears and provided Zoraya the perfect opportunity to cordially announce that we were doing such a trip now. A longer conversation ensued and one of the other elderly ladies offered to be briefly interviewed and filmed for our documentary. One of the questions Zoraya asked of her was what she thought about the political divisions plaguing our country. You can see her response in the video provided in the Facebook Page: “The Rebel Rodder.” In short, she states that we are one America, not just Democrats or Republicans but ultimately all Americans. True, but of course not that simple to surmise and lay our cultural divisions aside, especially not when one political camp views the other (and vice-versa) as evil or irredeemable and an existential threat to their worldview and way of life. Nevertheless, her earnest words were captured by Zoraya and now passed onto you, the viewer.

Upon departing the hotel, we headed to the “Old First Church” where the gravesite of the famous and prestigious American poet, Robert Frost, laid to rest. Aside from taking the usual pictures and typical video, I posed next to the tombstone with my new book “The Rebel Rodder,” because I opened my introduction with his poem, “The Road Not Taken.” So I thought it only fitting to capture the moment and complete the full circle.

We then proceeded to the enormous obelisk monument that commemorates the great “Battle of Bennington,” (see “The Rebel Rodder” Facebook page for the video). After quickly surveilling the area and parking the car, Zoraya immediately found the perfect foreground to spay-paste the poster with the gigantic obelisk in the background (as you see from the photos and musical motif of “2001: A Space Odyssey” on “The Rebel Rodder” Instagram).

STATE 3: New Hampshire / Highway Welcome Sign / Area 51 Fireworks

As soon as we entered the New Hampshire state line the highway welcome sign greeted us just below the Area 51 fireworks store. I quickly pulled over and parked the Challenger up on the roadway leading to the store with the sign in the foreground, which the bottom third was covered with stickers. Perfect. I prepped my insignia poster in the back my car trunk by spray-pasting the back of it then walking down and with my red rags to clean the surface before applying only the top third part of the poster allowing the bottom two-thirds dangling in space—flapping with the wind like the flags in the behind the Challenger. Zoraya got two signatures from the two employees inside who were enthusiastic to participate, so much so, they wanted to get a picture of us and the car.

STATE 4: Maine / “No Trespassing” 7-11 Prohibition Wood Palette Sign

Not too long after that, we made it to Maine and stopped at the local 7-11 to get signatures and a receipt from purchasing pizza, chips and coffee. It was there that I unexpectedly found a spray painted wooden crate with the words: “No Trespassing!” Of course, for me, that was a command to defy it, which I did. However, soon thereafter, as I finished spray pasting and documenting the scene an employee came out to see what we were doing as I was putting pasting supplies away in my trunk. I looked over to my left shoulder and looked at him straight in the eyes and grinned to him as I said, “Hey, what’s up?” He responded, “Nothing.” Then took out a cigarette and started to smoke… right beside us, as if keeping watch. He must have saw something through the security cameras, but not quite sure what so he went outside to investigate. We soon made our casual departure.

STATE 5: Massachusetts / Welcome Center’s Trash Can

We arrived at the Massachusetts’ Welcome Center just before closing time at 5 pm and parked the Challenger precisely in front of the building’s sign to frame the photo and video with the Challenger just beneath it to act as a title heading for the composition. Excellent. Zoraya got more signatures inside the visiting center and bought a Salem, MA witch magnet souvenir to get our $5 receipt before flying off ourselves.

STATE 6: Rhode Island / Walkway Promenade & Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) Waste Receptacle

As we approached our next state, I thought about where to paste and Shepard Fairey, the “Obey-Giant” street artist came to mind. I remembered he was alumni at the Rhode Island School of Design and thought it would be kind of cheeky to “guerrilla art” his alma mater and what a more perfect site than the trash can right next to the school’s entrance labeled “Waste.” But just before that, I had done the walkway promenade along the waterway.

STATE 7: Connecticut / Service Center Gas Station Trash Can / 9:49 pm

Our final stop and spray-pasting was quick and easy. As Zoraya went inside to get signatures, I fueled up to get our receipt and prep the poster. By the time she came out I was done and done we were off to the hotel and the end of the day.
